Sheldon Lavin is the CEO of the internationally known food processing company the OSI Group. Lavin’s academic background is in accounting and finance. He also had a successful career in banking as an administrator. Sheldon Lavin was also a savvy investor and had his own financial accounting firm before taking over at the OSI Group. In fact, Otto & Sons, which later became the OSI Group, initially went to Lavin’s financial consulting firm looking for help getting the resources they needed to expand. Lavin provided the help the company needed then and took control of it in the 1980s.
Known for his vision and innovative ideas, Sheldon Lavin saw the potential for growth the Otto & Sons possessed. Once he was in charge, Lavin created a plan for growth internationally. He also developed forward thinking worker safety and environmental sustainability policies and procedures that have won the company worldwide praise and a growing number of awards. Under Sheldon Lavin, the OSI Group has expanded to have over 20,000 workers in 70 food processing facilities in almost 20 countries. They have also earned a reputation for delivering the highest quality products.
The growth trajectory and smart acquisition strategy Sheldon Lavin created for the OSI Group continues to this day. To bolster the company’s presence in Europe, the OSI Group recently took control of Dutch food company Baho Foods as well as the popular food distribution company Flagship Europe. These acquisitions give the OSI Group a foothold in at least two dozen European countries. Sheldon Lavin has also made a growing presence in China an important part of the OSI Group’s expansion activities. The company now has 10 processing facilities in China and provides meat, dough and vegetable products to McDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway and other American fast food companies doing business there.
Sheldon Lavin also holds leadership positions with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation as well as Rush University Medical Center. The octogenarian is a committed philanthropist that’s given to a variety of causes worldwide for decades. In 2016, the Vision World Academy honored Sheldon Lavin with their Global Visionary Award for perseverance in actualizing his dream and achieving his goal of making the OSI Group a world leader in the food processing industry.
